Recipe Box

[category_id=recipe-box]

When moving to another state (literally, not figuratively) you find a lot of things in storage that you don’t recall ever having.  This is especially true when you have many generations of boxes bestowed upon you from your parents’ and grandparents’ storage units. While unpacking, I came across my mom’s little metal recipe box.  Now, don’t go thinking that this had every recipe she ever made.  She was a hoarder of recipes.  She would rip them out of magazines, watch cooking shows and scribble down the directions on used envelopes and cards, stick bookmarks in and dog-ear all of her cookbooks.  My dad once said that one of the greatest gifts my mom ever gave him was cooking something different every day of the week…for 31 years.  My mom said that she just liked to eat good food, so she tried everything that looked interesting.

But there were some recipes that she went back to time and again; some that were requested of her for parties and holidays.  And there were also those that stunk, but let’s hope that those aren’t the ones she kept.  She had a crack shot way of keeping track of how good the recipes were by simply writing notes in the corner of the card or page.  Things like:  ‘Delicious!’, ‘good’, ‘Randy liked’ (my dad) and my favorite, ‘blech’.  That says it all.

I do not claim to be any kind of great chef, I do not know what I am doing half the time while buzzing around in the kitchen, I make a habit of checking out three different recipes for the same dish to make sure I’m doing it semi-right, BUT I do like to learn new things and I especially like to share.

My goal is to dive into that recipe box and see what stands up to the test of time. I thought you might like to dive in with me.
